Is a matter of opinion. That which seems excessive to some is reasonable to others. What seems irrelevant to others is more than excessive to some.

Understanding that it is a subjective measure helps us get to grips with the implications. I cannot judge accurately the excess of others. I can only be a custodian of my own.

Most of the time, excessive is a waste. It’s inefficient and suboptimal. Might even be lazy or careless.

There are times when excessive is important. Lavishly pouring out our time, energy and resources to help a world in crisis is one such an occasion. Remember, you have no barometer to measure the excessiveness of others. The only question worth asking is, are you doing everything you can?

Excessive is valuable only when done in service of others.
