For all its virtues, capitalism has one fatal flaw: money.
It’s the single measure of success. Such a one-dimensional reality distorts our efforts. In pursuit of performance, we will divert our energy to the only metric that matters. In the process, we neglect other key elements required for the ‘dream’ we are chasing – self-fulfilment.
There comes a point where we are confronted with the question of the purpose of capitalism. Is it not more lofty a pursuit to produce what I am able to the benefit of all society? If so, profit cannot be the only measure.
When we change that, we change everything.
