What we mean to say, it that the wind is not ideal. A broad spectrum of possibilities exist between the best possible gale-force wind from behind, and the worst possible scenario, no wind at all. A large proportion of these we might classify as unfavourable.
Certainly, when compared to the best possible outcome, it falls short. Despite this, we are able to position our sails for forward motion. It might take longer, and force us to cover longer distances than we expected, but the energy source is free.
Ultimately, we are moving forward by harnessing energy that requires us only to posture ourselves differently.
As long as it ends up taking you in the right direction, it’s worth opening the sails.
Negotiation works the same way.
