In the last mile of the marathon or every split second of a sprint, we do this. All guns blazing, nothing to lose, leave in all on the track, pedal to the metal kind of ruckus. It’s exhilarating! It’s also short-lived.
The other kind of giving everything is more of a rising thunder. Like when lightning strikes in a distance and the sound build and grows until it shakes right through your body.
It’s a measured, tactical, sustainable effort that produces results and conquers challenges that all or nothing approach just cannot reach. Through a suboptimal effort, we produce significant results time and again far above what one quick burst of brilliance could ever achieve.
Both are useful.
Knowing which one is appropriate, that’s powerful!
