You have to let them do it. It’s a tough transition. Especially if you are an owner/founder. You built the business from the ground up. You know how it works and why. You’ve scaled successfully.

This is also why you spent time and energy surrounding yourself with a crack team of people you can trust. They are enabled to perform when you let go and trust them to do what you hired them to do.

Your team is strong enough.

No matter how strong they are, they are not able to outperform an insecure leader. You quickly become the highest hurdle and biggest stumbling block. If your crack team is under-performing it’s likely one of two things:

  • They have no clear direction.
  • They have no freedom to execute.

Both are really easy to fix, and really hard.

Great leaders know when they are the problem.
