It’s a difficult business. Everybody wants a piece. We attempt to allocate portions fairly. It often results in lengthy negotiations and stale-mated business opportunities.
We have this notion that everyone wants a similar kind of piece. This creates tension because we have a limited supply. Supply is only limited if we all want the same thing. What if we structured our deals, and selected our partners based on symbiotic needs?
What if one party wants only the crust, one the filling and one the cinnamon topping. This makes dividing the pie easy. It’s a win-win for everybody. Nothing is wasted and nothing is compromised.
Perhaps, our greatest challenge is not diving the pie but finding the right partnerships so that everyone gets the whole thing.
