We live in a colourful world filled with many languages, cultures, perspectives, and races. This creates significant opportunities for innovation and inventive application. The more diverse we become, the greater our capacity to see with multiple lenses.
We tend to have a centripetal force in our organisations and social groups. We gravitate towards cultures and languages we know and understand. This can easily reinforce biases that result in disunity and distance.
The more we engage with people different from ourselves, the more we realise the value in difference.
Cultural sensitivity is an intentional process. The world is getting smaller.
Instead of waiting for others to accommodate us, perhaps we should start closing the distance. We have more in common than we think.
‘Difference is a macro reality and a micro illusion.’ * The closer we come, the more similar we are.
The same is true for organisations.
